Well, I typed this on Wednesday, does that count?
“What to Wear Thursday” just doesn’t sound as good, but it seems as though I’m on a roll here! Now that spring weather has finally sprung (and it couldn’t have come soon enough for me!) I wanted to share another one of these with you. I love how these outfits are not at all “matchy-matchy” but still compliment each other well. The bright colors are awesome – note that none of the tops are the same color! Hope it gives you a little idea of what to wear at your next session – can’t wait to see you!

The Norfolk Waterside is a wonderful location for Operation: Love ReUnited sessions. The USS Wisconsin is such an awesome (literally! huge!) backdrop and now that spring has sprung, the gardens and parks surrounding Nauticus are lovely. Speaking of lovely, they don’t come much more precious than the little beauty I had the pleasure of photographing this weekend. Her Daddy is currently serving overseas and hasn’t seen her for a couple months – he’ll be surprised to see her sitting up on her own and I know that her smiles (and her mommy’s!) will make his day a bit brighter.
Enjoy your sneak peek, Kelli – the album will be off to your husband very soon!

When I saw the photo challenge for the iheartfaces blog this week, I knew I had to enter! Recently, my family celebrated the birthdays of my two beautiful children. My son’s 1st Birthday was 8 days before my daughter’s 4th Birthday. So, I decided to have a carnival themed party after seeing the recipe for “popcorn cupcakes” online. They are very simple, but extremely time consuming to put together. But, the results were fantastic and everyone loved them!
Here’s how to make these awesome treats:
1. Make your cupcakes as usual. Cool completely and ice the tops. Don’t overdo it, you want enough icing for the marshmallows to stick, but not too much.
2. Cut an “x” in the tops of 50,000 (or so it seems!) mini-marshmallows. Prepare for our fingers to be sticky and to wipe off the blades of your scissors over and over because they’ll get sticky, too. {And, don’t try to scrape off the scissors with your finger like I did or you’ll have a nice big gash that probably will require stitches. OUCH!
}
3. Press the marshmallows gently into the icing all around the cupcake. Squish some before putting them on so that they look more like popcorn. The trick is to make them “poof” up!
4. Lastly, spray the tops gently with Wilton Color Mist food color spray to get that “buttered” popcorn look. Drop your whole cupcake into the paper popcorn wrapper and you’re ready for the carnival!

Here is just a super sneak peek from this week’s sessions: two newborns, both only 6 days old, and one beautiful belly! I have a special place in my heart (and my schedule!) for maternity and newborns and wanted to share a couple of my favorites with you, and give a sneak peek to them. I am so excited to share these that I just can’t wait another minute!
Baby Marlea is my most recent birth session and visited me at my home studio on Monday. She was a doll! I literally didn’t want to stop photographing her, but I knew her mommy and daddy wanted to take her home. *sigh*
I think this is quite possibly my new favorite picture:
I am so thrilled to have been asked to photograph this beautiful momma’s home birth in a few weeks. We met at the beach to get a some shots of “just the girls” – baby #2 is another princess! Don’t you just love the pink at the beach?
And, today I met the handsome Owen. What a dream he was! We battled the pollen to take some shots outside (if you live here in Virginia Beach, you know about all that yellow stuff flying through the air lately!) and I am so glad we did. This is my first time capturing a newborn smile…that sleepy, twitchy smile that all mothers know and love. So sweet!

The Cutest Kid Contest surpassed my wildest expectations – more entries, more votes, more of everything! I am thrilled that so many people were interested in having their children photographed by me. And, just for the record, flattery gets you everywhere.
I appreciate your patience in waiting all weekend for the results – combining the poll with the Facebook votes and going through the comments one-by-one to check for repeats was a big job. I have given feedback to polldaddy.com about the issues that some of you had with the 24 hour reset and had to work around some IP addresses being able to vote multiple times. But, I love how excited all the family and friends of the cute kids were all week and had fun reading the comments on the blog and Facebook. I hope you had fun, too!
So, without further ado, here are the winners:
In first place, the FREE photo session, mini-print package, and 5 websize Facebook images goes to:
In second place, a FREE Storyboard of images from your next portrait session goes to:
In third place, a $50 print credit toward your next portrait session order goes to:
Congratulations to the winners! Please contact me ASAP and we’ll schedule your session for this spring. Now that the weather is beautiful, I hope to photograph ALL of these cute kids soon!
