Ah, the sweetness! I was so excited to have a newborn girl during what seems to be a summer season of boys…not that I don’t love the little guys, but sometimes headbands and pink is just refreshing!
This little princess has a very tough mommy – her birth story is something straight out of a primetime medical drama. But she looked amazing and thankfully is recuperating well from her ordeal. Little Daylin (isn’t that a cool name?) decided to be a wee-bit fussy during our session. Mommy thought she’d be the perfect model and we’d be done in no time (even though I warned her that newborn sessions typically take 3-4 hours). This stubborn little thing decided to take the full 4 hours drifting in and out of sleep and then proceeded to fall into a DEEP sleep on her mommy’s shoulder right when we were finishing up. Lucky for me, because I got this shot – aren’t mom’s eyes just gorgeous?
When setting up this one, her daddy was a big skeptic – I think his exact words were, “There’s no way you’ll get that”. But, I was able to convince him when she held her head up like this for two hat changes! Ready to order this in poster-size, Daddy??
I picked this blanket up last week in anticipation of a little girl. I just love the colors – it’s so summery and girly!

WOW. Can I say that again? WOW! I am overwhelmed with the response to my Summer {Give} Mini-Session fundraiser for the Davis Family. We have raised nearly $1300!! Oh, happy day! Not only that, but I was contacted by quite a few of you who opened your hearts to the Davis’, offering supplies, job information, advice, and experiences with Diabetes. I know that they were so grateful for your support and I can’t wait for August 1st to photograph all of your families!!
Here is the schedule. Please contact me ASAP if your time will not work. I have very little wiggle room (as you can see)!

One of my favorite spots downtown was the site of my recently family session. My camera absolutely loved this family (okay, I did, too) with the teenage daughter who was stunningly beautiful, a 4 year old son who was so cooperative that I didn’t know what to do with myself and three adults who smiled and posed like pros! Sometimes, it’s just too easy.
I have lots more I could share, but I will leave you with this. Seriously – couldn’t she be a model? Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!!

This little man was too cute in his birthday outfit…but NOT excited about cake. Typically, once a baby gets a taste of the sweet stuff, they don’t turn back. Not this time – maybe he would have rather had broccoli. Ha ha!
We did manage to get him interested….a bit. (As long as the animal cookies we buried in the cake didn’t get icing on them!

I was honored to be asked by a fellow photographer, Christene of CS Photography, to be present to capture the birth of her second child. It was my first time photographing a “surprise” gender, which made it even more exciting!! Christene’s husband was not due to return from deployment until after her due date, so these photos were going to be very precious for them. Fortunately, the Navy sent him home a bit early and he was able to be present at the birth of his second child – another bouncing baby boy!
Christene’s birth was at a place very dear to me, The Midwifery Center at DePaul Hospital. I delivered my son there 16 months ago and being in the room again brought back lots of memories for me! Christene was a trooper – she had been having contractions on-and-off for quite a while and it was increasingly difficult for her to get any rest. She wasn’t as far along as they had hoped when we arrived at the hospital, but with the awesome support and advice of her midwife (the same one who was there for my birth – love you, Nell!) and her doula, Brandy, she was able to labor without interventions and have an amazing water birth!

Congrats again, Christene & Andy!
