This was the first year in which I specialized in maternity, birth, newborn, and baby portraiture. The result was having to turn down family photography requests – the hardest were those clients who have used me in the past and wanted to return. After looking over the family sessions I did in 2011, I wonder if that was a good choice. LOL! I love my families – they are always so well-coordinated and beautiful and I just love making connections with them. There are so many more that I could have chosen for this blog post, and I hope I don’t offend anyone by choosing. I went with a variety – big families, siblings, colorful, black & white, etc.
While my first love will always be the time surrounding the birth of a new baby, I will always try to make room in my schedule for my favorite growing families whenever possible! Here are my favorites from 2011. For each one, I could tell a story….but I won’t. I’ll let the images speak for themselves!

FAQ’s:
Who are these mini-sessions best for? These minis are only 20 minutes long, so they are best for families with 4 or fewer children. We will not have time for individual portraits of each family member, siblings together, and full family shots. My priority will be full family portraits unless you indicate otherwise. These mini-sessions are NOT ideal for newborns or toddlers. If you have newborns or toddlers, please know that we may not get 10-12 good portraits during one mini-session. We will do the best we can, but remember that it sometimes takes a toddler 15 minutes to warm up to a camera!!
I would ask those who are having regular sessions in Sept, Oct, or Nov. (especially Milestones Baby clients) to please reconsider booking an extra holiday mini-session spot. If you would like me to squeeze a family picture or two into your baby’s mini-session, I would be happy to do that for you! There are over 40 people on the mailing list who want a holiday mini-session and not enough spots to go around. Thank you!
Can I upgrade packages after I see my photos? Yes – you can purchase the Send some Cheer package now and upgrade to the Deck Your Halls package by paying the difference after you see your proofs! Instructions on how to upgrade will be sent with your gallery!!
Can I substitute items in the package? Because of the specialty nature of these offerings, the packages are standard and no substitutions or exceptions can be made. I will have a la carte items (additional sets of holiday cards, mini-accordion albums, prints and gallery wrapped canvases) available to add on when you see your proofs.
Where are the locations? Specific location information will be announced as we get closer to the dates. Morning sessions are going to be held at a beautiful beach in the Norfolk/VB area and evening sessions will be held somewhere green and lush. The location is not nearly as important as your smile!
What should we wear? I will be sending out a wardrobe guide for you about a month before the mini-sessions with some hints and ideas!
What happens if I can’t make it? Because of the high-demand, $100 of your deposit is non-refundable. If you are late to the session or have to cancel at the last minute, you forfeit your spot and your deposit.
What is the turn around time on prints/digital files/cards? All images will be proofed within 10 days of the session. Holiday cards will be proofed to you within two days and they will be ready for pickup within a week. All holiday cards will be in your hands by mid-November at the latest to ensure that you can send them in a timely manner for the holidays!
Sounds great – how do I get a spot? Click on this link to go to the booking site at http://kimberlingray.bookmonline.com where you can choose your preferred date and time (only those spots left will show up!) and then click through to pay via PayPal.
Look forward to photographing your family in October!!

I just had to sneak peek a few of these beautiful family photos from last night’s beach session. It was a celebration – with 14 family members from Virginia and Canada (yep, our neighbor to the north!) celebrating these twins’ baptism weekend. They are absolutely the cutest pair I’ve seen – well since my last pair of cuties! :D But seriously, don’t these two melt your heart?
I don’t want to get carried away with this ‘peek’ – but I’ll just share one of the grandparents and their little grandbabies:

And then my signature silhouette. I posted this one on Facebook where I’ve shared quite a few maternity silhouettes before. This time not a pregnant belly, but the whole family! I just loooove how it turned out!

It was a HOT ONE last night when we trekked all the way out to Smithfield to try out a new location! We originally had talked about this session on the beach, but I usually dissuade those with babies under 2 from the beach unless they are very comfortable little beach babes! The humid air made me a sweaty mess, but they held it together wonderfully! I am so excited to share these few with you all! Enjoy!
